Datasheet Power controller
Datasheet Power controller
Overview
HiFiBerry’s power controller is designed to allow to turn off/on the power of a Raspberry Pi. It does not require a HiFiBerry sound card, but works with most of our sound cards.
Facts
- Rotary controller that can control various functions on the Raspberry Pi (depends on the software running on the Pi)
- 3 color LED that’s fully programmable
- Firmware is fully open source and can be modified easily
- Supports voltages up to 30V (e.g. to switch power on a system using an amplifier that uses a higher operating voltage than 5V)
- No soldering, comes as a pre-fabricated kit, just plug it onto the Raspberry Pi.
- Comes with all components required to mount it.
Connections
Warning! Be very careful when connecting the board to the Pi and power supply. Incorrect voltages and/or polarity will damage the Pi and/or the power controller board!
Connecting a Raspberry Pi
Use the supplies flat-ribbon cable to connect the power controller and the Pi. Make sure, to use the right direction! Pin1 on the Pi and Pin 1 on the power controller need to be aligned!
Connect an external 5.1V power supply to the power input port of the power controller and set the jumper JP1. Without JP1, no power will be provided
to the Pi.
Connecting a higher voltage device (e.g. Beocreate, Amp2, …)
Remove Jp1 if set! Connecting a higher voltage with JP1 set will destroy both the power controller and the Raspberry Pi!
Installation
- Connect the board to the Pi, but do not yet connect the power to the power controller board, but still directly to the Pi.
- Install the latest firmware
- Check if communication with the power controller is working using i2cget:
i2cget -y -f 1 0x77 1
- Disconnect the power from the Pi and connect it via the power controller
Support
Note that there is no individual support for this product! This is not a plug-and-play product and we recommend it only for makers with some experience in electronics circuits. We only offer community support. Post questions in our forum.
