Preview: ADC8x add-on and Studio DAC8x

An Exciting Start to 2025!

As 2024 draws to a close, we’re breaking with tradition to give you an exclusive preview of what’s coming early next year. Here’s a look at two highly-requested features for our DAC8x platform that we’re thrilled to share:

Introducing the ADC8x Add-On

The DAC8x is already a powerful, compact, and cost-effective solution for creating multi-channel audio players. But you’ve asked for more — specifically, analog input functionality. Your requests have been heard!

The new ADC8x add-on adds eight analog input ports to the DAC8x. Designed for simplicity, the ADC8x connects directly to the header on the DAC8x, unlocking an array of possibilities:

  • Analog audio crossovers
  • Multi-channel effects processing
  • Audio mixers and routing engines
  • And so much more!

We can’t wait to see how you’ll use this exciting new feature.

Balanced Outputs for Studio Applications

Another popular request was support for balanced outputs on the DAC8x. While adding eight 1/4″ or XLR jacks to a small HAT-sized board wasn’t feasible, we found an elegant solution: the DB25 connector. Using the industry-standard TASCAM pinout, the Studio DAC8x ensures compatibility with professional studio setups, where compact yet robust connections are essential. This connector, long used in studio environments, is perfect for this purpose.

In addition to balanced outputs, the Studio DAC8x includes hardware volume control, adding even more versatility for studio and live setups.

Need XLR Outputs? No Problem!

If you prefer XLR outputs, simply pair the Studio DAC8x with a DB25-to-XLR adapter cable.

These cables are available in different configurations, so be sure to select the right one:

  1. Analog Input (8 balanced channels)
  2. Analog Output (8 balanced channels)this is the one you need!
  3. Digital I/O (4 balanced input, 4 balanced output channels)

The correct analog output version typically comes with eight male XLR jacks, giving you the flexibility you need for professional setups.

We’re excited about the new possibilities these additions bring and can’t wait to hear how you’ll use them. Stay tuned for more updates as we head into 2025!
